Annual gathering at Hilltop Harbor ^Academy c lass of ’20 holds r e u n ion PyBlU'SHERIDAN tditor PENN YAN — How many ^p\e can honestly say they’ve in close contact with their high school classmates more than liw or 10 years after graduation? ' ^ The scenario happens all too of- and is all too familiar: The closest of friends spend four of the most memorable years of their lives together, graduate and part ftr college or employment, rarely or never keeping in touch once those care-free high school days have ended. Such is not the case for a group of seven local women, who gathered Wednesday, Aug. 28 at the Hilltop Harbor in Penn Yan for their 71st class reunion. Guyle, Mary Comstock McCann, Alice McConnell and Doris Coats- They represent what remains of Penn Yan Academy’s class of 1920, a remarkable group of students who, despite the distances and the gaps in their lives, managed to convene for similar reunions on a regular basis throughout their post-PYA years. The women — Marjorie Pulver- Ernst, Margaret Thnney, Dorthea Mortensen-Owen, Lulu Comstock- Scherer — dined on the shores of Keuka Lake last Wednesday, spinning tales of ‘Vemember when” beneath the somewhat faded but symbolic green and white class banner, a project hand-made in 1920 by the women of the class prior to graduation. They remembered the little things, such as the fact that their class, wdth 54 members, “was the largest graduating class of Penn Yan Academy a t that time,” Thn- ney said. eveiy five years,” Tunney added. “As time goes on, the class dwindles.
