September 4,1991 - Page 9 Intense’ PY volleyball team is ready ByBOBGELFILLAN Staff uaiter PENN YAN — When asked to name the outstanding charac teristic to summarize her talented team as they head into the 1991 season, Penn Yan varsity vol leyball Coach Terry Test didn’t hestitate for a second. ■‘Intensity,\ said Tfest. As she elaborated, “They’re very serious in practice, they want to learn, and they have a tendency to hang on everything we (the coaches) say and do. ■'And,* added Ihst, “this is the only team Fve ever had to en courage to fool around a little bit _ because this (volleyball) is sup pose to be fun.” Also, as 'Ibst mentioned, “They’re a very versatile group of athletes — we have players inter ested in trying new ^ n g s and trying new positions. The competitors have come from as far awary as Rochester and Syracuse. Highlights of last week’s play included J.T. Trend, who had two spectacular bullseyes in a row last weekend. TVend is also the tournament’s current leader with 23 points. Other players hwo have scored in the top 10 include: second place (tie), Tbny Carrisimi, Michael Riker and Tbny Rapa, 16 points; fifth place, Mark Hinssen, 13 points; sixth place (tie), Ron Johnson, John Murray and Tom Dombrowski, 12 points; and ninth place (tie), David Crum and Noah Reynolds, 11 points. The players are competing for the first prize, a trip to ^orida via USAir, along with a golf vacation at The Homestead <3olf Resort in Homestead, VA. The Hole-in-One Championship is open to men, women and children of all ages. There will be a prize list for the top 25 players making the highest point score. Church also said his team has shown a great deal of enthusiasm as they look ahead to the 1991 season. “These kids have shown,” em phasized Church, “that they want to play.
